Madeira Island
1st Day

Meeting with the guide at the airport and transfer in private coach to the hotel. Accommodation (rooms available from 02:00PM) and lunch at the hotel. Afternoon dedicated to the visit of Funchal, main city of the Madeira’s archipelago, named Pearl of the Atlantic for the tropical climate, the waterfalls that sparkle and jump down the cliffs to the sea and the rainbow of flowers, like a million jewels engraved in the involving green. Stop at the market (opportunity to participate in the daily routines of the islanders) and departure on a panoramic sightseeing of the city: Santa Catarina Park (lookout over the harbor and the ancient fortress of San Tiago), S. Lorenzo Palace, the statue of Columbus, the Cathedral and the Municipal Theatre. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

2nd Day

Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day excursion to the east of the island. Departure to Camacho to visit a factory of wicker and proceed to Pico do Arieiro (1810m). Continuation to Ribeiro Frio to visit a trout vivarium and some specimens of the endemic forest: the Laurissilva forest. Continue to Santana, famous village for its small triangular thatched houses (unique in the world). Lunch in restaurant. In the afternoon, proceed to Portela, stop at the viewpoint and continuation to Machico, important historic city as it was the official landing spot of the archipelago discoverers. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

3rd Day

Breakfast at the hotel.
Morning at disposal for individual activities and shopping. Lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, departure to Pico dos Barcelos, viewpoint 335 meters high with magnificent views over the city of Funchal. Continuation to Eira do Serrado, famous for its location at 1094 meters in height, that permits to see Curral das Freiras: a village located in a crater of an extinct volcano. Optional tasting of a ginjinha (cherry liqueur) and proceed to visit the Botanical Garden, where plants from all around the world are cultivated, from desert cactus to rainforest orchids and endemic Dracaenas. continuation by cable car up to Monte to visit the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, that houses the tomb of the last Austrian emperor Carlos I, deceased in exile in at Madeira in 1922. Optional descent from Monte in toboggan (wicker sleigh) and return to Funchal. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

4th Day

Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day excursion to explore the west of Madeira. Departure for Câmara de Lobos (stop at this famous fishing village) and on to Girão Cape, second in the world in height (580 meters above the sea level). Stop at the typical village of Ribeira Brava and continuation through Paul da Serra (the largest plateau in the island) to Porto Moniz. View of the natural pools of volcanic origin and lunch in a restaurant. Proceed in the afternoon along one of the most beautiful roads in the island, through a variety of volcanic rock tunnels and waterfalls, like the one named Bride’s Veil, that sparkles and jumps down the cliffs to the sea. Taste of a Poncha (brandy made from honey) at Encumeada, village at 1007m high, and continuation down the valley of Serra d´Água. Return to Funchal. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

5th Day

Breakfast at the hotel.
In due time, transfer to Funchal airport, assistance in the check-in procedures and departure.
