1st Day

Arrival at Lisbon airport, meet with the guide and transfer in private coach to the hotel. Accommodation, dinner and overnight.

2nd Day

Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day dedicated to the visit of Lisbon, the city of blue sky, mild weather and narrow medieval streets where, sometimes, happens to hear the melancholic notes of a guitar that waves a Fado. Beginning at Belém quarters to admire S. Vicente de Belém Tower (the city’s symbol), the Padrão (monument to the Discoveries) and the Jerónimos Monastery, prime example of the singular portuguese architectural Manueline style. Stop at the Antiga Fábrica de Pasteis de Belém to taste the most famous amongst local pastry and proceed to S. Pedro de Alcântara Garden (magnificent view over S. Jorge Castle). Promenade through the typical quarters Bairro Alto and Chiado: coffee stop at the A Brasileira, coffee shop once often visited by the renowned portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa, immortalized with a statue by its entrance. Arrival at Rossio Square to explore the hidden narrow streets around the elegant avenues of the Pombaline downtown. Return to the hotel and lunch. Departure through the monumental Comércio Square (departing point of the typical ferryboats), to the Cathedral. Visit of the Santo António Church (where the saint was born) before climbing (about 1km walk) to visit S. Jorge Castle. Time permitting, it will be visited as well the Ulisses Tower, which houses the famous periscope - an optical system invented by Leonardo Da Vinci in the XVI century, which allows to observe the city (weather permitting) in 360º, real time. Time to admire the magnificent view over the city and the Tagus river, before promenading down along the alleyways and small squares of the characteristic Alfama quarters. Continue to Parque das Nações to admire great contemporary architecture such as Vasco da Gama bridge (the longest in Europe), Gare do Oriente (central station projected by the renowned architect Santiago Calatrava), the Atlantico Pavilion and the Oceanário (giant aquarium). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

3rd Day

Morning departure towards Óbidos, a charming picture-postcard village loved by tourists, surrounded by a massive wall (XII century). Walking tour of the medieval village and stop at a typical bar to taste a ginjinha (cherry liqueur). Proceed to Alcobaça, town known for the Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria, with the Gothic tombs of King Dom Pedro and Dona Inês, that was crowned queen after her death. Stop then at Nazaré, the most colorful fishing village of the country. Lunch at a seaside restaurant and free time to stroll along the beach. Ascent to Sítio (wonderful view over the village) and continuation in the afternoon to Batalha to visit the famous Monastery of Santa Maria Victoria. Beautiful the Dominican abbey built in 1388 to commemorate the victory of King D. Joao I in the battle of Aljubarrota against the spanish. Unmatchable the Capelas Imperfeitas that transmits the magical effect of unfinished: the gateway to infinity.... Transfer to Porto. Accommodation at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

4th Day

Morning departure to Guimarães, known to be the nation’s cradle as it was the first capital of the Portuguese Kingdom and the birthplace of its first king: Afonso Henriques. Visit of the old town: the S. Mamede Castle, Largo da Oliveira and the sumptuous Ducal Palace, in Gothic style of the XV century. Continue to Braga, city called Portuguese Rome for the richness of its churches. Panoramic tour of the historic centre: the Menagem Tower (remaining part of the XIV century walls), the Episcopal Palace, the magnificent Cathedral and the immaculate gardens of Santa Bárbara. Stop at the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary (XVIII century), known for the monumental staircase and the secular hydraulic tram. Lunch in panoramic restaurant and continuation to Viana do Castelo. Visit of the elegant city and its magnificent buildings in República Square. Free time to explore the intricate streets and hidden squares of the historic centre. Ascent to Monte de Santa Luzia to admire the view over the city and the Lima River. Return to the hotel in Porto, dinner and overnight.

5th Day

Morning visit of Porto, a city of an unusual charm, sophisticated shops and historic sights, of facades with bright tiles and hanging clothes to dry, belonging to neighbors that fill the air with the sound of their chatting between balconies. Visit of the city centre around Avenida dos Aliados and the Ribeira (neighborhood of the people who dedicates to river commerce), and admire some of the most emblematic monuments such as the 75,60m high Clérigos Tower (the city symbol), built by the italian architect  Niccolò Nasoni, St. Francis Church and the Stock Exchange Palace that houses the Arab Hall (a large room with blue and gold arabesques inspired from the Allambra in Granade). Worth seeing also the Christal Palace and its romantic gardens with viewpoints over the town and river, the House of Music (imponent work projected by the dutch architect Rem Koolhaas), the Cheese Fortress over the Atlantic Ocean, etc.. Crossing of the beautiful Luís I Bridge, that connects the city to Vila Nova de Gaia: visit of a caracteristic wine cellar to taste the prestigious Porto Wine. Lunch, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

6th Day

Departure to visit Coimbra, charming historic city of secular university studying tradition, known for its eight majors: Psychology, Law, Literature, Science and Technology, Medicine, Economy, Physical Education and Pharmacy. Start at the top of the hill with the University, that houses the Joanina Library (amongst the most beautiful libraries in the world, in Baroque style with ceilings and walls with frescos and engraved furniture), the S. Michael Chapel, the Academic Dungeon and the Capelos Hall. From the university complex depart the alleyways that form the uptown and that lead to downtown, aside Santa Clara Bridge, where the city’s activity mainly lies. Stop at the Holy Cross Monastery, where the Augustinian canonical Fernando de Bulhões from Lisbon becomes Antonio, worshiped today as St. Anthony of Padua. Lunch and continuation to Tomar. Visit of the old jewish quarter, the historic centre and the Convent of Christ, the undisputed symbol of this city with its seven cloisters and the famous Manueline styled window. Proceed then to Fátima. It was in this plain that the Virgin Mary appeared to the three shepherd children on May the 13th, 1917. Lucia Santos and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco Marto saw appear in an oak a shining figure that ordered them to return there the same day for six months and, in October the 13th, the pilgrims with the children were 70,000. Many spoked of the miracle of the sun, but only Lucia heard the three Secrets of Fátima, revealed in the last apparition. Accommodation at the hotel and dinner. In the evening, possibility to assist and participate in the candlelight procession. Overnight.

7th Day

Morning panoramic view of Fátima, the Chapel of the Apparitions and the famous Marian Shrine, places of pilgrimage where people live intensely the Catholic faith, annually visited by over five million pilgrims. Departure then to Sintra, the summer residence of portuguese kings and certainly among the richest and most beautiful villages of the country, inspiration for poets such as Lord Byron, who named it the Garden of Eden. Visit of the old town that houses the National Palace. Worthy of note other romantic monuments around the historic centre such as the Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle, the Monserrate Palace, etc.. Lunch in restaurant and proceed to the Roca Cape, the roman Promontorium Magnum and the westernmost point in continental Europe. Continuation through Cascais (ancient fishing village, famous for being the exile of the last italian king of Italy Umberto II, deceased there in 1946) and Estoril (elegant cosmopolitan centre) to Lisbon. Accommodation at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

8th Day

In due time, transfer to Lisbon airport, assistance in the check-in procedures and departure.
